Situated inland just 35 minutes drive from the beach, Vélez Rubio is an area of outstanding beauty. It is surrounded by incredible natural landscapes, beautiful mountains like the famous " Table-Top Mountain".

The important cultural, historical background of the town is reflected in the architecture and in the picturesque style of its old cobbled streets and quaint squares.

What the town has to offer?

The town has all the modern amenities you would expect from a large and growing community: A variety of major banks ( all with cash points ), supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, gyms, large municipal swimming pool and parks. Most bars are open all day until the early hours, serving delicious meals for around £3-£5 per head, using mostly locally grown organic produce, with beer at a refreshing 36p! Excellent food can also be enjoyed in cosy restaurants in the town. You can be served mouthwatering gourmet food at around £8 per head.

Health

Excellent modern health facilities as well as private clinic and a complete public medical centre.

Schools

There are 5 very good schools, youngsters will find no problem in learning the Spanish language easily. The standard of education in Vélez Rubio is higher than that of many English schools.

General

On Saturdays the open market held in the town offers "everything under the sun" at incredibly low prices. Branded Scotch and other spirits are only £5 per bottle.

A good table wine is around £1 per bottle in the supermarkets.

Vélez Rubio is the stop off for major bus routes and the nearest train station is just 20 minutes away. The bus stop also has a taxi rank. Being a rural town, they also have excellent veterinary facilities for pets.
